E/CS 52 was my first exposure to real digital electronics. I built (and wrote all the software for) a standalone 80186-based digital audio recorder. It featured an LCD display, nice user interface, realtime oscilloscope, LED VU meter, reverse play, a four-function calculator, and inexplicably, a hangman game.
